- Dig foundation hole as detailed in the Ground Sleeve Installation
Instructions. Set sleeve into hole so that top of
tube is 2" above grade. Plumb sleeve vertically, and
brace so that it will not move during pour. Pour
concrete, and trowel to desired finish. Keep inside of
sleeve dry, cover sleeve opening if pole has not been
delivered.
- Remove shaft from shipping tube, lay on
sawhorses. Unwrap top, bottom, and around hand-hole. If
multi-piece pole, assemble per instructions on reverse
side. Locate truck and cable in parts, and uncoil cable
leg extending from spindle. Fish cable down inside pole
from top. Screw truck spindle into top of pole, using
pipe-wrench to tighten.
- To connect cable to winch, first remove bolt in
front of winch and rotate mounting plate 90° counter-clockwise to expose
barrel of winch. Now bring cable-end down behind and up
in front of winch, and lay the copper cable-stop into the
slot in barrel, pointing upward. Making certain that
cable-stop is not cocked, tighten cap-screw to hold stop
in place. (Note: cap screw is a pan-head 1/4-20 x
1/4". A spare is included in the spare parts bag.
Use of a longer screw could cause winch to slip.)
- Now, rotate winch and mounting plate 90° clockwise, back to the original
position, so that the slot in the mounting plate is over
the threaded bolt hole. Reinsert bolt through slot, and
tighten. Insert crank handle into hole in center of
winch, and slowly crank clockwise to take up slack in
cable.
- Uncoil outside leg of cable (coming from bronze
bushing in truck) and stretch cable out along pole. With
inside swivel pulled up against truck spindle, the swivel
connecting cable to flag arrangement should fall just
above the top of the access door. If swivel falls too
close to the access door, it may be necessary to shorten
the cable. (See Step #10.)
- Undo the Quick-link attaching flag arrangement to
the counterweight; remove one end of beaded retainer
ring, run around pole, and re-attach. Temporarily tape
the entire assembly to the wrappings close to the hand
hole. Slip flash collar on bottom of pole, and tape to
the wrappings above the tar-line.
- Using a nylon sling, carefully pick up the pole,
orient the hand-hole in the desired direction, and set
into the sleeve. If pole is multi-piece, a nylon choker
must be used to prevent bottom section from slipping off
when lifted.
- Plumb pole upright, and insert wood wedges (not
furnished) between the pole and sleeve. Tamp dry sand
into sleeve, making certain it is well compacted. Leave a
1" to 2" void at top for sealer. Remove wedges,
fill void with waterproof cement or sealant, and slip
collar down pole. Caulk into place on concrete and around
pole.
- Insert crank handle into hole in winch, attach
flag to flagsnaps, and crank flag to peak. With flag at
the peak, check to make certain that the inside swivel is
still clear of the winch. (If swivel is touching winch,
crank cable all the way down, cut off yoke connecting
cable to outside swivel, and shorten cable. Re-attach
yoke to swivel using spare parts provided. Crank flag
back to peak and re-check winch and swivel clearance.)
- Remove remainder of wrappings. With everything in
order, remove crank, lock access door in place, and turn
over key, crank, spare parts, can of spray-lube, and
maintenance instructions to owner.
